Why Do You Need a Retracta Shadehouse?
Frost Protection: The frost control provided by Retracta Shadehouse won’t let you be caught in the lead-up to Spring by frost damage to your valuable crops. Not only will you waste valuable water by irrigating for frost control, but irrigating on cold nights overwaters the crops and increases the risk of fungal attack. Svensson Aluminium Thermal Screens reflect long-wave radiation back down to the crop at night, keeping the plant leaf temperature above freezing point in all but the coldest locations.
Shade Protection: The Retracta Shadehouse provideds shade control by automatically closing high light levels to protect the crop. This not only eliminates burning of emerging flowers and foliage, but dramatically reduces pot temperature, which results in a much healthier root system.
Hail Protection: Protection from hail and sleet is also another major advantage of the Retracta Shadehouse.
20-30% Extra Light: Whenever the light levels are acceptable, the screens open, exposing the plants to full sun. This results in thousands of extra hours of light per year. With the full light spectrum including UV, the plants are kept compact and harden off perfectly.
Large Spans: Our Retracta Shadehouse can span up to 10m between post widthways and 4.0m between posts lengthways.
Reliablity: The screens are driven by an ultra-reliable Rack & Pinion System from Holland, although Cable drive is also available.
External Screens
External screens are designed to withstand and protect your outdoor crop against adverse weather conditions such as strong sunlight, frost, hail, heavy rain and strong winds. The strong monofilament yarns used guarantee a long and useful life, even under the most extreme of weather conditions. OLS External Screens The OLS series of screens consist of aluminum strips that reflect unwanted solar radiation with open spaces between these strips to facilitate sufficient air flow.
The result is a considerable reduction in daytime crop temperature, as the undesirable solar radiation is reflected by the aluminum strips. As the strips reduce heat radiation from escaping from the greenhouse, the result is a decrease in heat loss during the night, limiting night time frost damage. This material is used for fixed or roll-up sidewalls.
OLS ABRI External Screens
The OLS ABRI series of screens offers all the same benefits as the OLS screens, but are reinforced with a synthetic wire to enable it to be hung onto polyester or steel wires with suspension hooks. This allows the screen to be completely opened or closed, in order to adapt to changing weather conditions.
We can also install Retracta Shadehouses over low polytunnel houses. Temperatures inside the tunnels are greatly reduced.
