Circulation Fans

Powerplants Aeromax Circulation Fans

Circulation Fan InstallationGood air circulation within a greenhouse is vital to your plants’ health. Circulating air reduces fungal disease on leaves and fruit, increases transpiration aiding in leaf cooling and nutrient uptake, brings fresh CO2  to the leaf and improves plant health and vigour.

Powerplants know the most efficient and effective way to move air around greenhouse plants is with Horizontal Air Flow (HAF) Circulation Fans, which is why we provide greenhouse growers throughout Australia with Aeromax Circulation Fans.

Benefits of Aeromax Greenhouse Circulation Fans

Reduce humidity related disease As the greenhouse cools down at night, the plants and other solid objects cool down faster than the air does. If the air next to the plant is still, it will cool down faster than the surrounding air, then drop excess water vapour (condensation) on the leaves. Borytis spores can then germinate on the leaves. Aeromax greenhouse fans reduce and eliminate humidity related diseases by keeping the air circulating and the leaves dry.

Reduce heating costs and improve heat Warm air rises, but you need it down at plant level. Aeromax fans mix the air in the greenhouse thoroughly, bringing the warm air where it’s needed—to the plants. In addition, Aeromax fans keep temperature and humidity uniform across the greenhouse, which is vital to ensure even production.

Reduce plant temperature in summer Just as you feel cooler when there is a breeze, so to do your plants. Plant transpiration will be increased and the crop will stay cooler with Aeromax fans.

Circulation Fan CloseupSpread CO2 throughout the crop If the air is still, CO2 near the leaves will be used up, reducing its continued availability to the plants. The solution is to keep the air circulating so you are providing your greenhouse crop with a continually refreshed supply of CO2, which is one of the main growth ingredients.

Increase the effectiveness of LVM sprayers & sulphur burners Our fans greatly improve the distribution of chemical applications, especially under the leaves. Powerplant’s Aeromax fans can enable you to spray the entire greenhouse without even being there! Ask us about this labour saving system.

Air Circulation in Greenhouses - Fallacies Vs. Facts

Fallacy #1 - “I don't need fans because I have good ventilation” Fact: Most vents will be shut or mostly shut in the late afternoon until the next morning, so there is very little ventilation when the plants need it the most. Leaving the vents open at night will only make the problem worse as the air temperature will be much lower, resulting in even more condensation. Air ventilation must then be improved by circulating fans within your greenhouse.

Fallacy #2 - “I don't need fans because I have good heating” Fact: Crops like tomatoes generate an enormous amount of water vapour during the day. Much of this moisture is retained in the greenhouse at night. A good hydronic heating system can help create an updraught and dry the plants, but this costs a great deal of energy. Much of this energy cost can be saved by using Horizontal Airflow Fans (HAF) in addition to the heat to dry the foliage.

Fallacy #3 - “Running fans at night is expensive” Fact: The capital cost of circulation fans is very low - between $0.80 - $2.00 per square metre of greenhouse treated. The running costs are almost negligible compared to the benefits they produce. Each fan draws approximately 150 Watts and based on $0.15 per kWHr, cost only $0.0225 per hour. They are one of the best value investments in the greenhouse.

Aeromax Circulation Fan Specifications

Mounted Circulation FanThree speed fan: The fan can be run at 700, 800 or 900rpm. This gives you more control and far less noise compared to single speed 1450rpm fans.

Inexpensive to run: Only 150W, 0.8Amp (high speed) 240V motors.

High output: Approximately 4,700 per hour.
Approximately 1 HAF fan per 350 of greenhouse area.
Maximum throw approximately 45m.
Aim for 1.5 to 2 air changes per hour of total greenhouse air volume.

Quiet: In a recent study comparing the Powerplants Breeze 470 with our nearest competitor, it was found that at a distance of 15m, the Aeromax produced approximately 8.83dB, where the competitors fan produced approximately 18.04dB!
This can be very important if you have neighbours as the fans usually run at night. It also produces a more confortable working environment for staff.

Powerplants’ Fan Speed Controller We can provide you with stepless electronic speed control for 1 fan per controller with minimum run speed protection.
