Fog Cooling Systems for Australia’s Greenhouses
When It’s Hot…You Need Fog
A fog cooling system from Powerplants is ideal when it’s too hot in the greenhouse. Too hot and dry in a greenhouse, and the plants can’t grow because of “stomata” (pictured) Once closed, usually between 30 to 35 degrees, your greenhouse crops are reduced to dehydration.

Closed Stomata |
Open Stomata |
Evaporation of water through the stomata accounts for 90% of all water moving through the plant. When this ‘pump’ is shut down, very little water can be brought up from the roots, reducing how much nutrients are available and further increasing water stress. There is also very little absorption of vital carbon dioxide, which normally enters through the stomata. The plants are in severe danger as heat stress makes them much more susceptible to disease.
Propagators
You can propagate the softest, most vigorous cuttings with the highest strike rate possible. Fog provides the cuttings with a minimal heat and water stress environment by cooling and humidifying all the air in the propagation house. Minimising stress reduces disease susceptibility. Immediately once the fog system is started, the millions of microscopic water droplets start to evaporate and cool the air. The temperature typically drops to 29 degrees as the humidity rises to 80%. The fog drops the temperature by 8 degrees and the plants can grow again.
The Powerplants’ Fog System
First the water is cleaned by a 10 micron filter, then by a 5 micron filter to keep nozzle blockages to a minimum. The pump system brings it to between 800-1000psi (70Bar). The pure water then flows through an ultra-high pressure flexible hose through the greenhouse, where it is forced out past the anti-drip valve, through the stainless steel impeller and nozzle orifice. It produces true 10 micron fog throughout the greenhouse. All parts in contact with the water are either brass or stainless steel and are locally available.
